Thailand Solar · ROI Calculator

Your electricity bill
is bleeding you.

Villa owners in Thailand pay ฿8,000–40,000/month to EGAT.
Solar panels eliminate most of that — and pay themselves back in 5–9 years.
Then 16 more years of pure profit.

Why Thailand · Why Now

The math has never
been this obvious

Three forces converging in 2025 make solar in Thailand a rare no-brainer investment.

01
EGAT tariffs rising
Electricity rates in Thailand have increased 4–7% annually for the past decade. Every year you wait, the bill gets bigger — and the payback gets shorter.
02
Panel prices at floor
Chinese manufacturing has cut solar panel prices 89% since 2010. A system that cost ฿2.5M in 2012 now costs ฿280,000. This is unlikely to get cheaper from here.
03
5.8 hours of sun/day
Thailand averages among the highest solar irradiance in Southeast Asia. Phuket and Samui push 6.2 hours. More sun = faster payback = more profit.
04
Property value uplift
Studies across Asia show solar-equipped properties sell 3–7% above comparable non-solar homes. For a ฿15M villa, that's ฿450,000–1,050,000 in added value.
From Property Owners

Real savings, real villas

"I was paying ฿22,000/month in electricity for my Pattaya pool villa. After 8 kW install — ฿3,400. I thought the meter was broken."
Aleksandr M. · Villa owner, Pratumnak
Saves ฿222,000/year
"My accountant called it the best investment I made in Thailand. Better ROI than the rental yield on the condo I almost bought instead."
James L. · British expat, Phuket
Payback in 6.2 years
"We run a boutique hotel. 30 kW system. Electricity went from ฿95,000/month to ฿12,000. The loan paid itself in 4 years from savings alone."

FAQ

Questions

Yes. EGAT and local MEA/PEA utilities permit grid-connected solar systems. Systems up to 10 kW require only a simple notification to the utility provider — no special permit. Systems above 10 kW require a formal application but are not restricted. Most installers handle all paperwork as part of the project.
Thailand operates a Net Metering scheme where surplus electricity is exported to the grid and credited to your account at approximately ฿2.20/kWh. For properties with moderate daytime consumption (offices, hotels), this adds 15–25% to the effective return. Residential homes with low daytime occupancy benefit less.
Modern monocrystalline panels (Jinko Solar, LONGi, Risen) are IEC-certified for high humidity, salt air, and extreme heat. Thai conditions are well within their operating parameters. Most manufacturers offer a 25-year linear power warranty guaranteeing 80%+ output at year 25. Inverters typically last 10–15 years and cost ฿15,000–25,000 to replace.
For most villa and property owners, no. A grid-tied system without batteries delivers the best ROI. Batteries add ฿80,000–200,000 to installation cost and are only worthwhile if you experience frequent grid outages or want full energy independence. We recommend starting grid-tied and adding battery storage later if needed.
Verify the contractor's MEA/PEA registration, ask for references of completed installations (ideally with production monitoring data), ensure the contract specifies exact panel and inverter brands and model numbers, and check the warranty covers both parts and labour.
